Agricultural estate powered by smart energy
Rossviks Säteri is an agricultural estate outside Eskilstuna that has turned its roofs and fields into a small power plant. The site owner has paired solar with battery storage, and Qurrent optimizes it all: a 2 MW solar park with a co-located 2 MW battery, plus a 150 kW battery at the farm itself.
From farm to power plant
Rossviks Säteri, an estate dating back to the 15th century, combines farming, forestry and rental housing. The family first turned to solar around 2012, sizing a rooftop installation to roughly match the estate's own consumption of about 360,000 kWh a year. At the time of installation, it was one of Sweden's largest rooftop solar arrays. In 2022 they went further, building a ground-mounted 2 MW solar park purely for production and adding battery storage alongside it.
Sheep graze the fields around the solar park, keeping maintenance to a minimum. An adjoining wildflower meadow supports biodiversity and the local ecosystem.

The estate runs two separate battery setups, both optimized by Qurrent and balanced by Bixia in bidding zone SE3: a 2 MW battery co-located with the solar park, and a smaller 150 kW battery at the farm. Access to the ancillary service markets was the main reason the batteries made sense.
Joint solar and battery optimization
Rossvik was one of the first sites where Qurrent optimized a solar park and its battery together as a single site, rather than as two separate assets. That unlocks a key advantage: the battery can charge directly from the solar park's own production instead of buying from the grid, which cuts costs and strengthens the economics of the whole site. On top of that, Qurrent stacks revenue across the ancillary service markets, so the same battery earns from frequency and reserve services when it is not storing solar.

Both batteries are active across Sweden's ancillary service markets: FCR-D, FCR-N, FFR and mFRR. The solar-park battery brings 2 MW of flexible capacity and the farm battery another 150 kW, all steered by Qurrent in real time.
Working with Qurrent
Rossvik previously worked with another aggregator, but the collaboration didn't quite live up to expectations. Before switching to Qurrent, Carl von Celsing researched the market thoroughly. A stable ownership behind the company and a high level of service and reachability were decisive factors in choosing a new optimizer. Well aware of how complex the service is, he was prepared for a difficult changeover, but was pleasantly surprised: the switch was completely seamless and without any unexpected surprises.
The collaboration with Qurrent has been great. They have always been easy to reach and able to support, even on weekends. When considering the complexity of the setup I was quite worried about switching optimizer, but it was an extremely smooth process which Qurrent handled really well. I truly recommend working with Qurrent.
Over the last twelve months the solar park and its battery contributed 14,821 MWh of sold capacity to the ancillary service markets, while the farm battery added another 1,395 MWh. The battery also charged roughly 418 MWh straight from the estate's own solar, running on sunshine instead of the grid.
