Backup power keeps the farm running
At Lövsbergs Gård in Mjölby, the farm runs on a combined system of rooftop solar, battery storage and off-grid backup. Qurrent optimizes the battery on the electricity and ancillary service markets when the grid is up. Resilion supplied the hardware with the requested functionality, together with its local partner Anderssons Elektriska i Mjölby AB. Resilion's technicians supported the installer through commissioning and integration, so the site can be disconnected from the grid and run in island mode during a power outage.

The assignment
The farm already had solar panels on the barn. The need was for them not only to feed the farm when the grid is up, but also to carry operations when it goes down. An ordinary battery sitting idle, waiting for an outage, is not enough if the outage lasts. What was needed was a solution that integrates with the existing solar production, prioritizes critical loads and can keep the site running longer in island mode.
Resilion developed and supplied the hardware for exactly that function: three batteries, a static transfer switch (STS) that disconnects from the grid and puts the farm into island mode, and the control needed for the solar panels and batteries to work together while the farm is off-grid.
The solution was not only to provide security during outages, the battery should also create value between them. That is where Qurrent comes in, optimizing the battery on the electricity and ancillary service markets so the reserve is put to work even when it is not needed as backup.
How it was done
The installation was carried out by Anderssons Elektriska i Mjölby AB, Resilion's local partner. Anderssons Elektriska has been a local electrical installer since 1953, with experience from installations in industry, agriculture, solar and energy storage. Resilion's technicians provided support through assembly, connection and commissioning, so that the delivered functionality was actually in place in the existing system.
The work was not about building a new solar plant, but about connecting the battery and switch to the solar panels that were already there. It is that integration that lets production keep feeding the farm even when the external grid is gone, instead of the solar panels shutting down during an outage.
Qurrent was brought in as the site's optimizer. When the farm is grid-connected, Qurrent controls the battery in real time on the ancillary service markets, with Bixia as balance responsible party, while always keeping enough headroom in reserve for backup.

Operation during a power outage
When the grid is available, the solar panels cover part of the farm's own consumption. The batteries can at the same time be used on the electricity and ancillary service markets, which Qurrent handles through its energy portal for multi-market optimization.
If the external grid fails, the static transfer switch moves the site into island mode. The batteries keep the prioritized loads running, and the integrated solar production extends the runtime for as long as there is production to make use of. A power outage therefore does not have to stop the farm's operation.
Since the battery came online in spring 2026 it has contributed upwards of 1,000 MWh of sold capacity to the ancillary service markets, active in five markets at once: FCR-D up and down, FCR-N and mFRR up and down. Reserve and revenue come from the same asset.
