Tomas Kåberger appointed new Chair of Qurrent
Qurrent is strengthening its Board of Directors ahead of the company's next phase of growth, and appointed Tomas Kåberger as its new Chair this summer. Kåberger, Professor at Chalmers University of Technology and former Director General of the Swedish Energy Agency, sees the company's ability to rapidly bring new technologies to market as key to modernizing the electricity system across the Nordics and the rest of Europe.

Qurrent is an independent energy optimization platform that connects, optimizes and steers distributed energy resources such as battery storage, solar power and wind power on behalf of asset owners in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. By enabling these resources to participate in electricity and flexibility markets in real-time, the company maximizes their value while contributing to a more flexible and stable electricity system.
It was precisely this combination of new technology and a rapidly evolving electricity system that led Kåberger to become involved with the company.
“Qurrent uses the capabilities offered by batteries, power electronics, solar and wind power to create an economically efficient, stable and reliable electricity system. Qurrent is one of the companies doing this particularly well, using modern technological solutions. I am pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to accelerating this development,” says Tomas Kåberger.
Kåberger has extensive international experience in the energy sector, spanning traditional energy companies, energy technology research and board positions in both large corporations and entrepreneurial companies. He sees clear potential for Qurrent beyond the Nordic region.
“By being one of the companies at the forefront of harnessing new technological opportunities, Qurrent has capabilities that can serve not only the Nordic market but other parts of Europe as well. There is an opportunity to help make new power generation technologies more profitable, while improving electricity systems in those markets too,” he says.
“The electricity system is currently undergoing a profound transformation, creating entirely new demands on how energy resources are controlled and how they interact. Tomas has both followed and helped shape this development through his work in research, public authorities and the boardrooms of energy companies. His decision to join Qurrent is a strong validation of the relevance of what we are building, and his experience will be important as we take the next step in our growth,” says Mats Lindelöw, CEO and co-founder of Qurrent.
Qurrent was founded in Stockholm in 2022. The appointment comes at a time of continued growth for the company, as it prepares for broader geographical expansion and further development of its offering.
