From installation to active market asset with Nordic Solar
We are proud to have contributed to Nordic Solar's Södertälje battery energy storage project, now fully operational and delivering services to the Swedish power grid.

With a capacity of 9 MW / 18 MWh, the project marks an important milestone for both Nordic Solar and the development of flexible capacity in the Swedish power system. As the share of renewable generation increases, battery storage plays a crucial role in maintaining grid stability, balance, and overall system efficiency.
Nordic Solar is an established Nordic developer and investor in solar energy, with a rapidly growing portfolio of solar and battery projects across the Nordics and Northern Europe. In recent years, the company has taken a clear position in integrating energy storage as a core component of the future energy system, effectively combining renewable generation with flexibility.
In this project, Qurrent acts as optimizer and control provider, and is responsible for the market integration of the asset.
Our scope
- Implementation and commissioning of advanced battery control systems
- Continuous optimization across relevant ancillary service and electricity markets
- Managing the prequalification process with Svenska kraftnät
- Ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory requirements for participation in system services
Prequalification is a critical step when enabling participation in ancillary service markets. It is both technically and regulatorily demanding, requiring verification of performance, response times, communication, and operational reliability. Bringing a project from installation to becoming an approved and active market resource requires close coordination between the asset owner, technical suppliers, and optimizer.
A battery is not just a physical asset; it is a flexible system resource.
Our role is to ensure that every MW and every MWh is deployed where it creates the greatest value, both for the asset owner and for the energy system as a whole.
Through intelligent control and continuous optimization, the Södertälje BESS now contributes to:
- Frequency stability
- Grid support and flexibility
- Value creation across multiple markets
The collaboration between Qurrent and Nordic Solar boasts a strong technical ambition and a shared focus on quality execution.
The Södertälje BESS marks an important milestone for Nordic Solar's growing battery portfolio and in strengthening flexibility in the energy system. We appreciate the strong collaboration with Qurrent in bringing the project from installation to an active market asset.
We thank all involved parties for a great partnership and look forward to continuing to develop flexible assets, and contributing to a more resilient and renewable energy system.
